RONAN - Marie Berthann Keays Lawson King, 92, died on April 23, 2010, at St. Luke Extended Care Center in Ronan, where she had been a resident.
Born on Oct. 27, 1917, in Corvallis, she was a daughter of the late Robert Alonzo Keays and Carrie Alice Wyatt Keys.
Marie graduated from Southgate High School in California and later attended Beauty College in Montana, where she met and later married Fred C. Lawson.
The couple moved to Seattle, after World War II broke out. Fred worked in the Seattle shipyards as a welder. Fred and Marie had two daughters followed by the birth of a son. When their son was born, Fred gave his shipyard award pin for "Efficiency in Production" to Marie.
Many years later, Marie married Harold E. King and they had a son. They operated the King Hotel in Arlee, for several years until a fire destroyed the business.
Marie will be remembered for her beauty, her sense of humor, her supportive compassion, and for her love of children and animals. She enjoyed music, crocheting, and visiting friends and family.
Marie is preceded in death by two siblings, Louise Elizabeth Keays Ojala and Otis Robert Keays; and her husband, Harold Edward King.
She is survived by a sister, Alice Carrie Keays Peters Olson; two daughters, Ann Marie Lawson Smith Tanton and Jeanne Elaine Lawson Wallace Moss; two sons, Michael Frederick Lawson and William Edward King; 16 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, six nephews, one niece, and numerous foster children.
Marie spent her last day with a beloved stepdaughter, Charlotte King Bentley, of Ronan.
A celebration of Marie's life will be held at a later date. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family online at www.groganfuneralhome.com.
