Helmer L. 'Hugie' Hugelen
MISSOULA - Helmer L. "Hugie" Hugelen, 65, of Missoula, passed away April 18, 2003, Good Friday, at St. Patrick Hospital from a brain tumor.
He was born Aug. 26, 1937, in Billings, the son of Helmer Oren Hugelen and Margaret Hugelen-McCraken.
Hugie attended high school in Roundup before graduating from Senior High School in Billings. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. Hugie worked as an equipment manager for the Washington Corp. He was Dennis Washington's first salaried employee and remained working for 37 years until the day he got sick.
Dad loved skeet shooting and was the top shooter in all gauges. He started golfing later in life and was hooked on the feeling.
Hugie was preceded in death his parents and sister Sharon Meyers. He is survived by his daughter Deanna Lewis of Anaconda; son and daughter-in-law Dan and Julie Hugelen of Billings; and three grandchildren, Rex, Jade and Jessica.
Services will be held on Wednesday, April 23, at 1 p.m. at Garden City Funeral Home with a reception following at the Washington Ranch in Grant Creek. Interment will take place in Billings at a later date.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Hugie's name to the American Cancer Society.
