HAMILTON – Richard W. Riggs, 80, of Hamilton, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2010, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.
He was born July 2, 1929, in Anderson, Ind., the son of Frank L. and Pauline Riggs.
Dick grew up in Indiana and Texas, and served his country in the U.S. Air Force shortly after high school. He participated for almost a year in the Berlin airlift.
One of Dick’s favorite pastimes was riding broncs in the rodeo. He later became a transportation and logistics engineer for the Department of Defense, retiring in 1985.
Dick married Diane Kable in 1978. After a short vacation in Hamilton, Dick and Diane decided Hamilton was the place they would spend the rest of their lives, moving here in 1995. Diane preceded him in death in 1998.
Dick is survived by five children, Teri Brusca, Mike Riggs, Randy Riggs, Susan Jacobson and Brian Jacobson; and nine grandchildren, Micah, Shauna, Matt, Seth, Nikki, Lindsey, Rachel, Charlie and Jakey.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at the Mountain View Wesleyan Church on Golf Course Road. There will be a reception immediately following the services at Dick’s residence.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Dick’s name to the American Cancer Society or the Arthritis Foundation.
