His adventuresome spirit and work vocation led him to work in such interesting locations as Barrow, Alaska, helping to build underground utilities for the city of Barrow, and then returned to Missoula to work construction. In 1989, he moved his family to Kent, Wash., to help construct a 500-man camp on a barge to help aid in the cleanup of the infamous Exxon Valdez oil spill.
In 1990, they moved to Wilsonville, Ore., where he ran a modular housing factory and later worked construction superintendent for Bakke Construction until his health led him to retire and move back to Missoula.
