MISSOULA – Ruth (Miller) Kahler, 87, of Missoula, went home to her Lord on Monday, May 10, 2010.
She was born May 4, 1923, on her family’s homestead in rural Tuttle, N.D., the daughter of Magdalena (Wagner) and Martin J. Miller. She grew up the last of 12 children and finished her education at Tuttle High School. From there, she taught rural school until her marriage to Edward Kahler in 1945.
Ruth enjoyed being a farmer’s wife in the Tuttle area until 1961, at which time they moved to Missoula. Here, Ruth took a position at the Jack and Jill Nursery until she and Ed retired in the 1970s. Ruth enjoyed traveling, raising a garden and flowers, along with her work in genealogy on her family. She was a member of the Germans from Russia Historical Society.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; her sisters, Bertha Schneider, Lydia Erwin, Helen Mundren, Hilda Miller and Martha Knudson; and her brothers, Albert, John, Otto, Elmer, Adam and Bert.
Ruth and Ed have two children, Charolette Kahler-Traylor, and Jerome and wife Prit Kahler. There are four grandchildren, Carmel and her husband Tom Glick, Shawn Kahler and wife Amy, Brian Kahler and wife Jamie, and Heidi and husband Herbert Anderson. Ruth has five great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Jacob Glick, Bridget and Gavin Andersen, and Khloe Kahler.
Viewing and service will be at Garden City Funeral Home; viewing 3-5 p.m. Thursday, the service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, with Pastor Tom Krantz officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
