MISSOULA – Virginia Ann Jellison passed away peacefully at St. Patrick Hospital on July 20, 2012.
Virginia (Giny) Smith was born Feb. 19, 1939, in Hibbing, Minn., to Richard E. and Alice Sommars Smith. She graduated from high school in Grand Rapids, Minn., and married Wayne Jellison in 1957. She moved to Montana with her children in 1964 and made Missoula her home.
Virginia studied social work at the University of Montana and graduated with honors in 1972. She specialized in public housing and was passionate about politics and social change, serving on the Missoula City Council and the Montana Board of Housing. After working in Minnesota and Oregon she retired to the beauty of western Montana, which she loved. Her hobbies were cooking, gardening, reading and quilting.
She is survived by her children, Cynthia Johnson (Paul) of Minneapolis, Gregory Jellison of Butte, Anthony Jellison of Missoula and Linda Seabloom of Chicago, and her brother Richard D. Smith (Daphne) of Missoula and their children. She was the proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Virginia was a kind and gentle woman of faith who was dearly loved and will be sorely missed. Her family gratefully acknowledges the kindness and attention of her many friends and caregivers at Silvercrest Residential Home and St. Patrick Hospital.
Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 23, at Missoula Silvercrest, 1550 S. Second St. W., Missoula, MT 59801.
