KALISPELL – Larry Wurtz has been identified as the Kalispell Walmart employee who died after falling from a movable staircase in a back room of the store last week.

The cause of death for Wurtz, 57, was listed as accidental, Flathead County Sheriff and Coroner Chuck Curry said Thursday.

Wurtz died at Kalispell Regional Medical Center as the result of a head injury four days after falling while working at Walmart.

An investigation by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is looking into the time it took an ambulance crew to reach the victim, OSHA area director Jeff Funke has said.

Workplaces are required to ensure the ready availability of medical personnel or have employees who are trained in first aid, Funke told the Missoulian.

Reporter Vince Devlin can be reached at 1-800-366-7186 or by email at vdevlin@missoulian.com.
