Search crews late Friday night recovered the bodies of two snowmobilers who fell through the ice while attempting to cross Seeley Lake, while a third was transported to a Missoula hospital.
A call came in to 9-1-1 dispatchers about 6:45 p.m. after a group of five male snowmobilers attempted to cross the lake, but only two made it to the west shore near the Seeley Lake Campground.
One snowmobiler was located alive about 8 p.m. by another member of the group, said Paige Pavalone, spokeswoman for the Missoula County Sheriff's Office.
The 45-year-old man was wet and hypothermic after his snowmobile went through the ice, she said. He was stabilized then transported to Providence St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.
A helicopter from Two Bear Air in Flathead County located the bodies of the other snowmobilers shortly before 10 p.m. and assisted in their recovery. Their names are being withheld pending notification of family.
The three snowmobiles remain in the lake.
