WHITEFISH - A car speeding northbound on U.S. 93 north of here went off the road, rolled into a ravine and struck some trees Sunday afternoon, killing three people, the Montana Highway Patrol said.

Two men died at the scene and a woman died at Kalispell Regional Medical Center. All three were wearing their seat belts.

"The impact was severe," said patrol officer Kirby Adams.

The crash occurred about 3:25 p.m.

The victims' names, ages and hometowns were being withheld until their families could be notified, the patrol said.

The deaths raise the state highway fatality toll to 122, compared to 117 on July 13, 2002.
