I understand Anja Heister has stepped down as president of Footloose Montana. I wish her well in her new endeavors. Marty Essen has taken the reins as new leader and I wish him well, also.
2008 is an election year and the "mudslinging" and "back biting" will hold no bounds. Why one human being has to "run down" another in a "cheap shod" manner is beyond me. I think it might be just to try and make themselves look better in the eyes of onlookers.
I will apologize to no one for being a trapper and will apologize to no one for being a consumptive user of renewable natural resources. We trappers do cause pain and suffering to animals and apologize to no one. We are predators, period. Our eyes happen to be in the front of our heads so we can see ahead to look for prey. Our eyes are not on the sides of our heads to watch for predators. Deer, elk, antelope and bison are examples of prey species. We only trap with the permission of the general voting public. That's a U.S.A. exclusive in this world of turmoil.
If Footloose has its way about it, it won't be long before you, the voting public, will walk into a voting booth in this great, free country. You will close the curtain and decide our fate. Before you vote just think of why your ancestors left countries of repression to come to America. They sold all possessions, bought a one-way boat ticket coming here knowing they'd never see loved ones again.
By all means, vote against trappers if you want. By all means, vote for us if you believe in our cause. Just remember it is your choice in this free country.
Think of one thing if you vote to end our way of life: Who will be next? If you like to snowmobile, hunt, fish, log, etc., you could be next on the hit list. You do have to ask yourself one important question just before you vote: Do you feel lucky? Well, do you?
