The fight over the budget is pure politics. It misses the true problem and solution.
We have 12 million underemployed and unemployed workers not paying taxes, not making their house payments and certainly not buying lots of stuff. Many of these people once had highly paid and highly taxed factory jobs. If that tax money was bring collected today, the deficit would he much, much smaller.
Some people blame unions for the factories shutting down. I believe those people are half right and half wrong. The truth is Americans have chosen to employ workers who will work for $1 an hour, 70 hours a week, no overtime pay, no Social Security withholding, no medical benefits and no income taxes collected for American coffers.
The Democratic plan to raise taxes may balance the budget, but will do nothing for jobs. The Republican plan to shrink government is code for eliminating government jobs, which may balance the budget, but will make more people unemployed.
The Republican plan to cut taxes will not balance the budget. Just ask former Presidents Ronald Reagan and George Bush.
The tax cut money will ultimately go to China and the jobs with it. Even if you eliminated taxes, foreign labor is still cheaper.
But cutting taxes does make people feel good and it does win votes.
