Regarding climate change, science sometimes gives us information we don’t want to hear – such as when Galileo was prosecuted for showing that the Earth revolves around the sun, rather than vice-versa.
Now peer-reviewed science – and observation – shows us that the Earth is warming, ever since the Industrial Revolution, when machines started emitting CO2 from fossil fuels into the air. Climate change also has been shown to be happening faster than can be explained by natural climate cycles. It is happening whether we deny it or not. There is plenty of evidence available, on the web and in books and well-known publications.
This is a moral and ethical challenge. Will we face it – which takes courage, creativity, and some selflessness – or insist on business as usual for the sake of our present needs and comforts?
