This letter is in response to the letter written by Diane Tucker Lake in the Dec. 24 Missoulian. It seems Tucker questions why “newcomers” with less than 10 years residency in Montana have a right to question gun laws within our state.

After some thought, I feel she may have a point. Perhaps Montana laws concerning our guns (i.e., the “castle doctrine”) should only apply to native Montanans killing fellow native Montanans. All other “newcomers” would then be subject to the remaining laws under Montana statutes, minus the “castle doctrine” type statutes. This way the “newcomers” could not gain an advantage over the natives and affect the “gun culture” within Montana.
