We are close to the last chance for all voters to notify President Barack Obama and our representative and senators to vote for the current health care proposal by the president. The proposal contains the important parts that are widely supported: coverage for everyone, mandatory purchase of health insurance by all, cost containment of insurance fees.
Two economically positive things have not received public attention. First, one to two years after everyone receives full coverage, the costs go down permanently because people receive timely treatment for such things as tooth abscess and diabetes. Second, we have public utilities in this country which have regular government controls, but are still provided by private businesses. No one is talking about having a financial free-for-all with the electrical power to our homes and businesses.
Why not have a system with enough government regulation to make it work and still have private businesses provide the services?
