Yes, I returned to my Southern home, but Montana owns an HUGE chunk of my heart and my mind. As a University of Montana student and Montana resident for six years, I had the privilege to grow, to learn, and to love my Montana.

When Democrat Jon Tester won his U.S. Senate seat, the celebration at the Missoula Holiday Inn was raucous and jubilant – and we finally got rid of “Dirty” Conrad Burns (remember him?). I tell my fellow North Carolinians about Tester all the time – I am proud of his character, his leadership and his kindness. You can look at Republican Rep. Denny Rehberg’s many scandals and lobbyist ties, but the bottom line is: Rehberg does not represent what Montana stands for.

I am proud of Jon Tester and my Montana brothers and sisters. You and Tester inspire folks thousands of miles away – and across this nation. May the blue skies, big peaks and bright lights continue to shine on you, my Montana.
