I want to encourage people to vote this upcoming election for Anita Green for Missoula City Council, Ward 2. She is one candidate who’s known great adversity in her life and managed to emerge a compassionate person with the interests of others at heart. Since I moved to this beautiful city a couple of years ago, she’s reached out to make me feel welcome and I see that same kindness extended to others.
Anita Green is firm in her desire to see inclusionary zoning instituted in Missoula. At present the city is unaffordable for many, especially those with lower incomes seeking home ownership, and one of the keys to a vibrant economy is having a path to home ownership for all workers. Her compassion extends to advocating a wet housing option for the chronically inebriated, an idea that makes our streets safer for everyone, including the homeless.
This compassion for the city’s citizens is balanced with her forward-thinking that would help Missoula’s economic development. For anyone who’s negotiated the traffic in Missoula, you can understand the advantages that come with having effective mass transit. Anita Green supports increased bus ridership, which helps reduce congestion, is kinder to our environment and is a lifeline for many within the city who cannot afford to drive or are unable to do so. Likewise, she advocates increased bicycle use within the city. Missoula is a leader in bike trails, but there’s far more we can do to make the city bike friendly and safe.

Further, she favors development of the flagging Riverfront Triangle west of Orange Street along the Clark Fork that’ll create jobs in our community and pump more money into our economy.
