We must stop the reckless spending and tax increases by Congress, and the only way to do this is to go to the polls next month, and in November, and vote for conservative candidates who will stand up and say no to bigger government.
Our national debt increased by $1.9 trillion in 2009 to $12.9 trillion, which is at 92.6 percent of our estimated gross domestic product (GDP) for fiscal year 2011. This exceeds that of Spain at 66.9 percent and is fast approaching that of Greece at 133 percent. Greece has become insolvent and now faces bankruptcy. The rioting in Greece's streets, causing deaths and injuries, has resulted from their government trying to cut back on their entitlement programs in order to get a $140 billion bailout from the International Monetary Fund, France and Germany. This can happen in any socialist country whose people become entirely dependent on their government for their very existence. America will continue down this same path unless conservatives can take control of Congress in 2011.
More than 25 percent of our national debt is now owned by foreign countries, including communist China and Russia (Vladimir Putin, former KGB), which places our national security in jeopardy. The annual interest alone on our national debt will soon exceed our national defense budget. We cannot sustain a viable military and protect our borders unless we reverse these trends. Despite all the new tax increases we are seeing, total tax revenue will actually shrink because many of the 50 percent of Americans who pay all the taxes, will work less and produce less. That 50 percent will shrink to 40 percent or 35 percent.
Montana is very lucky to have one reliable, conservative member of Congress: Rep. Denny Rehberg. Please vote for him in the primary on June 8 and in November. We cannot afford to lose him.
