Missoula enjoys a variety of community organizations that make the city exciting. The historic Roxy Theater is proving that a commitment to excellence and a genuine sense of the diversity in the community will spark interest and involvement in a project.
The Roxy has initiated a calendar of events designed to attract fans — from the Met to rhythm and blues, extreme action sports like bungee jumping off cliffs in Norway, and westerns with marauders attacking a homestead, to the great classics of the theater, with special showings of performances of London's National Theater at a price about a tenth of what is customarily charged. Add a mixture of great classic films, the latest Oscar-winners, foreign language films, with special children's events with games, colored chalk, face-painting and puppetry at the most reasonable admission rates in the state.
The Roxy staff is composed of dozens of volunteers who want quality entertainment and believe that Roxy attendance should be a comfortable experience with classy refreshments. The Roxy is so hip that it offered a Podcast festival and is prepping a Montana Film Festival for October. The International Wildlife Film Festival will continue, as will the training offered by the Montana Film Academy and screenings like "Winter Light" and "Winter in the Blood."
So here is the point: The Roxy, a non-profit, is launching a program of membership like the symphony or the children's theater membership, and deserves serious consideration by readers of the Missoulian who want to see our art scene grow and sparkle like the community jewel it is. Joining the Roxy offers the satisfaction of enjoying this extraordinary project as it becomes a jewel that shines. Finally, it will provide your family hours of intelligent and sophisticated entertainment. Become a member of the Roxy.
