As an entrepreneur, I work to lay the groundwork for major wind projects in Montana. It is risky and it takes a lot of work to line up the necessary investments to get the ball rolling and break ground. Up until now, the Wind Production Tax Credit (PTC) has made this all possible.
As the Wind PTC faces expiration on December 31, investors have put a freeze on virtually all new wind development in Montana and nationally. Wind sector companies across the country are laying off workers and projected state revenue for new wind energy transmission is no longer a reliable bet. But there is hope thanks to Sen. Baucus, Sen. Tester, and Rep. Rehberg. Together, they are fighting to make sure the PTC gets new life.
There is a lot of work to do to make this extension a reality before the year’s end. To get the job done, we need our congressional delegation to continue their fight to prevent the loss of over 600 jobs and many hundred million dollars of investment from vanishing here in Montana. The company I own, Zephyr Wind Energy, has current projects in south central Montana would create over $13 million in local job wages just in construction of the turbine towers alone.
Please do your part and join me in thanking our congressional delegation for their continued support and leadership to extend the Wind Production Tax Credit today.
