I was deeply saddened to read the article in this morning’s (Nov. 21) Missoulian about Monte getting caught in a foothold trap at the Florence Bridge Fishing Access site. Thank goodness Monte survived. However, what sticks in my mind are the shaken owner’s comments: “I was there to hear her screaming and was there to see the fear in her eyes and the pain she fought.”
But, wait a minute. Trappers have been known to say that wild animals don’t really feel pain when caught in a leg hold or snare. So, wild animals don’t experience excruciating pain or extreme fear, but dogs do?
