Evidently, it takes a small boy to speak up and say that the emperor has no clothes on. Today, we need another boy to explain to us dummies that the U.S. Forest Service methods are not working. We need to clearcut half of the forest to prevent fires from spreading. Don’t worry, the woods workers and their companies will get filthy rich harvesting the timber. And the cost of fires in our wilderness areas will be about 10 percent of what it is this year.

Now, members of the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation and environmental groups will vehemently oppose such a measure. However, each of them only has one vote, which is all the rest of us have. We live in a nation somewhat classified as a democracy but we never have voted on this issue. The health department has been rather unresponsive about the dangers of forest fire smoke, and spends more time on the problems of burning coal.

All those in favor of reducing forest fires, stand up.
