HELENA - A 44-year-old Helena woman who pleaded guilty to crashing her car into a beer truck and driving on a nearby elementary school playground while intoxicated has been sentenced to spend nine months in addiction treatment, followed by nine months in a halfway house.
KTVH-TV reports Karen Schurg was sentenced Thursday by District Judge Kathy Seeley.
Schurg was arrested on Dec. 3 and pleaded guilty to DUI and felony criminal endangerment on Feb. 4. Prosecutors say Schurg hit the beer truck in a convenience store parking lot and then drove on the playground while children were playing at recess. Court records say she nearly struck a school worker who was trying to get her to stop.
Seeley also fined Schurg $300 and ordered her to serve 20 hours of community service.
