HELENA - An attorney for a 48-year-old woman accused of killing her estranged husband and another woman in Helena says the shooting was justifiable use of force.
Attorney Randi Hood mentioned the defense during a court hearing Thursday in the case of Michelle Coller Gable, who goes to trial April 2 on two counts of deliberate homicide. Hood didn't elaborate on the reasoning behind the defense.
Authorities responded to the shooting at an apartment Oct. 13 and found that 48-year-old Joseph Andrew Gable and 50-year-old Sunday Cooley Bennett had been shot. Bennett was found dead, and Joseph Gable died at a hospital.
The shooting happened two days after he filed for divorce from his wife of 25 years and three weeks after he tried and failed to get a protection order after she came to Helena from her home in Maryland.
