WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS - A Columbia Falls man killed Christmas Eve in a one-car crash north of here was identified Sunday as 32-year-old Luke Johnston.

Johnston and a 28-year-old passenger were both thrown from his pickup truck, which struck a fence after veering off a rural road, the Montana Highway Patrol said.

Johnston died at the scene. His passenger, a White Sulphur Springs man, was treated and released with minor injuries, troopers said.

Johnston, owner and operator of Wood Duck Construction, was born in Townsend and raised in White Sulphur Springs.

His death pushed Montana's 2004 highway fatality toll to 227, compared to 258 at the same time last year.
