HELENA - The state health department says its free autism screenings for young children will continue until March 31.
The screenings begun in July have helped the department create a list of Montana children who are under the age of 5 and have autism. The list is used in determining eligibility for services offered through a federal-and-state program for autistic children.
More than 160 Montana children have been screened and of those, 110 have been found eligible for program. It has enough funding for only 45 children, however. The 45 to be selected through a drawing will be offered up to three years of professional autism
