A Billings man who hit his wife in the head with a liquor bottle because she spoke to another man at a bar was sentenced Thursday in District Court.
Judge Susan Watters ordered Walter Willard Jensen Jr. to serve three years in the custody of the state Department of Corrections for felony assault with a weapon. The sentence was a joint recommendation from prosecutors and Jensen's public defender as part of a plea agreement.
Jensen briefly apologized to his wife, who attended the hearing.
Jensen was charged for an incident on Jan. 29. The woman received five staples to close the wound on the back of her head.
The woman told investigators the couple had been at a bar when Jensen became angry because she was talking to another man. She left the bar and went to her sister's house because she thought Jensen was going to start a fight with the man, she said.
She said Jensen was waiting for her at her sister's house, told her to sit down and then hit her with the bottle.
