Maintenance and repair work - that will include blasting - on the Welcome Creek Trail (No. 225) in Rock Creek is planned for Wednesday. Local residents in Rock Creek and recreationists in the area will likely hear the blasting work.
The Missoula Ranger District of the Lolo National Forest plans to reroute 590 feet of the trail through heavy broken rock and talus to move the trail out of the creek bottom - and provide a more reasonable walking surface and better drainage.
The work is located from 1.25 to 1.75 miles up the Welcome Creek Trail from Rock Creek.
The blasting work is planned for Wednesday and Thursday. The trail will be closed for public safety during blasting operations, which should take two days, but could be extended if needed.
This trail project also includes approximately 8,100 feet of trail restoration on the upper end of the Welcome Creek trail near Carron Cabin, approximately six miles above the trailhead. This work will repair existing trail tread, should not require blasting, and will likely not begin until early June once the area is free of snow.
