Customers using Charter Communications' email service ran into problems Tuesday in what the company described as an interruption of service.
John Miller, senior director of communications with Charter, said it was unknown how many Montana customers were affected by the disruption, or when the issue would be resolved.
“We're experiencing an interruption in customers' ability to send and receive emails throughout certain areas in Montana,” Miller said. “This is affecting Internet customers with Bresnan.net email addresses only. Charter or Optimum email addresses are functioning properly.”
Miller said the company’s technicians were working on the problem.
Customers who held an old Bresnan email account but failed to migrate their accounts to Charter may also experience difficulties, Miller said.
Charter purchased Bresnan last year and customers were informed of the required change in email accounts last week.
“There has been an ongoing migration of old Bresnan accounts over to Charter,” he said. “We’ve been emailing those customers telling them they need to register their site and regain access through Charter. It’s part of the transition from the old company to the new one.”
