Missoula Parks and Recreation announced Monday that Splash Montana Waterpark, 3001 Bancroft St., will be closed June 9 through June 13 due to forecasts of low temperatures and substantial precipitation. Weather permitting, the pool will reopen on Saturday, June 14, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Currents Indoor Aquatics Center in McCormick Park is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends. Splash Montana season passes are valid at Currents when Splash Montana is not open. Punch cards and annual passes are valid at both pools.
"The decision to close Splash Montana due to cold weather is to both protect children from hypothermia and to save energy costs of heating the water," said Donna Gaukler, director of Parks and Recreation.
On Monday meteorologists predicted conditions may improve by Friday. However, it takes at least 24 hours to restore the pools to comfortable swimming temperatures, delaying the reopening until Saturday, according to Gaukler. Swim lessons will begin, weather permitting, as scheduled on Monday, June 16.
