The Missoula County Attorney's Office has dropped charges, for now, against a man believed to be involved with his son's brief disappearance Tuesday.
Scott Anthony Charlie was booked into Missoula County jail early Wednesday morning and held on kidnapping and marijuana possession charges. Hours earlier, authorities had alerted the community to the disappearance of Donivan Charlie, a 13-year-old boy with autism who had walked away from his custodial parents in Missoula.
Scott Charlie, who was identified as Donivan's non-custodial father, was reportedly found with his son sometime around 11 p.m. Tuesday, but it wasn't clear whether Charlie's contact with his son constituted kidnapping.
Authorities will continue to investigate the kidnapping and possession charges, while Charlie remains in jail on a suspected probation violation, court staff said in an email on Thursday.
