Sioux warriors attacked a wood train outside Fort Phil Kearney in northern Wyoming, setting the stage for the Fetterman Massacre. Troops under the command of Col. William Fetterman rode out to relieve the train and were lured into a trap led by 22-year-old Crazy Horse. Some 2,000 Indians attacked and killed all 80 soldiers.
