A bitterly cold Arctic air mass struck central Montana with hurricane-force winds. As the thermometer plunged 30 degrees in less than an hour in Great Falls, winds lifted the roof from a Billings television station and ripped off a section of a new hospital in Livingston. A gust of 140 mph was unofficially recorded in Valier.
