Prohibition went into effect in Montana, where Helena alone had 65 saloons. A Legislative resolution in 1915 had placed the matter of banning the sale or transportation of liquor on the November 1916 ballot. It had passed by a 58 percent majority. Montana stayed dry until the 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was repealed in 1933.
