The first issue of Helena’s first newspaper, the Montana Radiator, was published. “Independent in all things, neutral in nothing,” was its motto. T.J. Favorite had removed the worn-out press from the Radiator in Lewiston, Idaho, and packed it in pieces over the mountains on horses. It became the Helena Herald 11 months later.
