A former sports editor at the Bozeman Daily Chronicle has been sentenced to three years in federal prison on a child pornography charge.
Jim Cnockaert, who is 54, was found guilty last September of receipt of child pornography. U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy of Missoula sentenced Cnockaert Friday and also ordered 10 years of supervised release.
Cnockaert was fired from the Chronicle last spring after a co-worker told supervisors she saw him using a computer in the advertising department. A check of the computer discovered that child pornography sites had been accessed. Investigators also found more child pornography on computers at Cnockaert's residence.
Cnockaert joined the Chronicle as a sports writer and columnist in October 2006 and was promoted to sports editor in February 2008. He has been living in Virginia.
