GREAT FALLS - A small credit union in Great Falls has merged with the much larger 1st Liberty Federal Credit Union.
Electric City Federal Credit Union had 335 members and $900,000 in assets. 1st Liberty has 21,500 members and $113 million in assets.
The merger makes Internet home banking, electronic bill payment and several other services available to members of Electric City Federal, which began as the Great Falls Tribune Federal Credit Union. The president of the board says the credit union changed to a community charter a few years ago, in an effort to build membership and expand services, but growth fell short of expectations.
