GREAT FALLS - A Great Falls police officer has been given a traffic citation for failing to turn on his siren or lights as he sped through a red light.

Officer Mike Holmes was cited with unsafe operation of a police vehicle after another vehicle struck his at an intersection Saturday night.

Lt. Jack Allen says Holmes was following a vehicle that had only one working headlight when the suspect car ran a red light. Holmes, who was traveling south, then tried to drive through the intersection, but was struck by a westbound car, sending his patrol car into a tree and a bench.

Allen says the driver of the other vehicle was not injured, nor was he cited, because he had the green light.

Holmes, who received minor injuries, will have to appear in municipal court on the citation.
