WEST YELLOWSTONE - The Gallatin National Forest has implemented an emergency area closure in the Hebgen Lake area because grizzly bears are feeding on carcasses.

The closure effects The Narrows area, including the Horse Butte peninsula.

Hebgen Ranger District wildlife biologist Randy Swilling says closing the area allows the bears a chance to eat, especially given the small amount of winter kill available, while also keeping people safe.
