BILLINGS – Authorities in south-central Montana say a helicopter pilot died Saturday morning when his aircraft went down for unknown reasons north of Shepherd.
Shepherd Volunteer Fire Department Chief Phil Ehlers says the pilot was the only occupant and the helicopter was destroyed in the crash and fire reported at about 8:20 a.m.
The chief tells the Billings Gazette that the investigation into the crash has been turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration and Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office.
The pilot’s name hasn’t been released.
