Wrapping for Missoula's Parade of Lights

Tom Aldrich, operations coordinator at the Missoula Downtown Association, covers traffic cones in holiday wrapping paper Friday to prepare for the 12th annual Parade of Lights on Saturday. The event includes activities all-day Saturday, ending with the parade on Higgins Avenue at 6 p.m. and the downtown Christmas tree lighting at 6:30 p.m.

The Missoula Downtown Association has announced the winning floats from the 12th annual Parade of Lights on Saturday.

A group of volunteers judged the 27 floats on overall appearance and impression, originality and creativity, use of lights and enthusiasm, the MDA said in a news release. The winners are:

• Best Civic Entry: Missoula Parks and Recreation.

• Best Commercial Entry: Montana Rail Link.

• Best Religious Entry: Christian Life Center.

• Best K-8 Entry: Montana Super Skippers.

The parade followed a full day of nearly 30 family activities throughout downtown, a visit from Santa at the Florence Building, and free horse-drawn carriage rides. Santa’s carriage brought up the rear of the parade at Circle Square, where various musical performances preceded the lighting of the downtown Christmas tree.

Both the parade and children's activities had record attendance, the MDA said.
