BILLINGS - A Musselshell man accused of drinking before a rollover crash that killed one of his passengers and injured another has pleaded not guilty to felony negligent homicide.
Gary T. Roen entered his plea during a Feb. 25 arraignment. He also denied alternative felony charges of vehicular homicide, negligent vehicular assault and criminal endangerment, as well as a misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of an accident.
Prosecutors say Roen lost control of his pickup truck on U.S. Highway 12 east of Roundup on May 10. The single-vehicle crash led to the death of 41-year-old Peter Gannon Jr. of Musselshell and seriously injured a passenger. Another passenger refused medical treatment.
The Montana Highway Patrol says the pickup was going at least 127 mph just before the crash, and troopers reported finding beer cans in and around the vehicle.
