GLASGOW - The state Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks has closed paddlefish harvest season on the Upper Missouri River from Fort Benton to Fort Peck.
The area was closed to paddlefish harvesting at 9 p.m. Sunday, but remains open for catch-and-release fishing from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily through June 15.
The 2010 paddlefish harvest quota for the Upper Missouri River is 500 fish. From May 1, through Saturday, 398 had been taken. Fisheries manager Steve Dalby says fish were being caught at the rate of about 100 per day in recent days, so the agency closed the harvest Sunday evening.
