BUTTE - A Seattle man was stabbed to death during a bar fight early Saturday, and a suspect is in custody, police said.
The 24-year-old victim was stabbed three or four times in the chest with a pocket knife outside the Irish Times bar just after 2 a.m., said Butte police Capt. Doug Conway. He died in the hospital emergency room. His name was being withheld until his family could be notified.
Police detained a Butte man at about 6 a.m. and Conway said he will likely be charged Monday in connection with the stabbing. The suspect's name was not released.
Investigators said a fight between the two men started inside the bar and continued outside.
During the fight, the victim was stabbed in the chest with a folding knife, Conway said. The suspect left the bar before police arrived.
Conway said he didn't know if the two men knew each other or why they were fighting. Several fights were going on outside the bar at the same time, police said.
Investigators found the knife they believe was used in the killing at the crime scene.
After police collected the evidence, a fire truck was sent out to hose the blood off the street.
