KALISPELL - A squirrel got into a Flathead Electric Cooperative transformer, interrupting a circuit and cutting off electricity to 3,900 customers.

Beginning shortly after 8 a.m. Monday, traffic lights went black in downtown Kalispell, causing drivers to resort to four-way stops and hand motions at intersections. Some power was restored by 9 a.m. and the rest by about 10:40 a.m.

Wendy Ostrom Price, public relations officer for Flathead Electric Cooperative, says the squirrel that got into the transformer died.
