Sussex School students will present Roald Dahl’s “Willy Wonka Jr.,” a timeless play that combines the stage adaptation of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and the film “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.”
All of the independent K-8 school’s students participate in the drama program, and more than 60 second- through eighth-graders will participate in the play.
“Theatre and drama have the capacity to positively impact physical, social, emotional and cognitive development in children. The connections children develop with other students, the communication skills they utilize, and the confidence they build on stage translate to tangible skills children need to succeed in life,” said Daphne Braun, the school’s drama teacher.
The play runs May 15 to 17 at 6:30 each night in the school's Elizabeth Winston Auditorium at 1800 S. 2nd St. W. Children are welcome to attend.
Performances are open to the public and tickets are available at Sussex School or by calling 549-8327. Tickets are $4 for children and $6 for adults. Children younger than 4 are free.
