HELENA - Sen. Jon Tester says he will lead a Senate Homeland Security Committee field hearing in Havre next month to look at security issues along the nation's northern border.
The hearing is called "Securing the Northern Border: Views from the Front Lines." It's scheduled for July 2 in Hensler Auditorium at Montana State University-Northern.
Tester says he organized the hearing in response to security threats along the 4,000-mile northern border, which in many places is unguarded.
The hearing will look at how effectively the Department of Homeland Security works with state and local partners, as well as its own staff, to address the challenges of securing the border.
Witnesses scheduled to testify include Brenna Neinast, chief agent of the Havre sector of the U.S. Border Patrol; and Dan McGowan, administrator of the state's Disaster and Emergency Services.
