Forestry Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 26 at the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula.
The annual event is presented by the University of Montana Woodsman Team, which is hosting its college competition; the Missoula Chapter of the Montana Society of American Foresters, who help put it all together, operate the sawmill, and put on the “pro” part of the Pro-Am competition; and the Friends of the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula.
Activities include competitions involving: crosscut sawing, pole climbing, springboard, obstacle course races, wood chopping, ax-throwing, log rolling, “cookie” making, and hot saw. There will also be an impressive array of historic forestry and logging equipment, an operating steam-powered sawmill, tours of the museum’s restored Sliderock Mountain fire lookout tower, and venders.
Food will be available from the University of Montana’s Woodsman Team.
Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for senior citizens, and $1 for students. Children under 6 and members of the Friends are admitted free. For more information, call 728-3476.
