HELENA – Rep. Ryan Zinke’s team announced Monday that his wife, Lolita Zinke, will join President-elect Donald Trump’s Department of Veterans Affairs landing team.
Members of the landing team will evaluate the VA and identify changes to be made in the first 100 days.
"Nothing is more near to my heart than caring for our troops. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve in such a crucial part of this Administration," Lolita Zinke said in a news release.
Congressman Zinke served as a Navy SEAL for 23 years. Their daughter, Jennifer, is a former Navy diver, and their son-in-law is a Navy SEAL.
Lolita Zinke said in the release that many changes need to be made to the Veterans Administration.
"As a military wife and mom, I have personally seen the challenges that our veterans and our men and women in uniform face when dealing with the VA,” she said in the release. “I am excited to be part of such a pivotal moment for them."
Congressman Zinke said in the release that he was confident his wife will make sure veterans remain a top priority in the Trump administration.
Lolita Zinke is a native of Santa Barbara, California, according to a biography on the Republican National Committee website gop.com. After she graduated from the California Western School of Law, she provided bilingual felony arraignment services for the San Diego Public Defenders Office. She is a self-employed estate property and asset manager.
Rep. Zinke's spokeswoman Heather Swift did not respond to questions about the appointment Monday, but said Lolita Zinke will be available to comment after she starts work on the landing team Tuesday.
