COLUMBIA FALLS — A South Carolina woman has been identified as one of two people who died Thursday afternoon in a fiery head-on collision on U.S. Highway 2 near here.

The Flathead County coroner's office said Linda M. Turner, 56, of Sumter, South Carolina, was the driver of a southbound pickup that was struck by another pickup shortly before 4:30 p.m.

The Montana Highway Patrol said a northbound pickup driven by a 27-year-old Kalispell man crossed into the southbound passing lane and struck Turner's pickup head-on. The crash took place near the intersection of Conn Road, roughly 3 miles north of Glacier Park International Airport. Both vehicles were immediately consumed by fire, according to the sheriff's Facebook page.

Flathead County Undersheriff Dave Lieb said there were reports of a pickup driving erratically before the crash.
