LIVINGSTON - A former Livingston woman has sued Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Corp., alleging environmental pollution caused her cancer.
Debra Bickford of Bridger filed the lawsuit Wednesday. It alleges BNSF knowingly discharged contaminants from the Livingston rail yard into area soils, groundwater and surface waters, and that those substances entered "the person and private property" of the plaintiff.
Bickford's attorney, Courtney Lawellin, said she couldn't recall how long her client lived in Livingston or whether the property was north or south of the rail yards.
The lawsuit does not detail the extent or type of Bickford's cancer and Lawellin would not say how Bickford linked her illness to environmental pollution.
BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas says the company is reviewing the lawsuit.
